| | May 22, 2008 Diamonds North Intersects 24 metres of Sulphides at the Tunerq Nickel Prospect
|
| | News Release: 08-16
VANCOUVER, May 22nd, 2008 - Diamonds North Resources Ltd. (TSX-V: DDN) announces that drilling has commenced on the Tunerq nickel prospect located on the Company's 100% owned Amaruk property in Nunavut. The first drill hole intersected 26 metres of mafic and ultramafic rocks with sulphides visually varying up to 10 to 25%.
A vertical hole was drilled into the nickel bearing outcrop at Tunerq. Sulphides were encountered between 0-24 metres which includes short intervals of non-mineralized rock. Sulphide content appears visually similar to the mineralization encountered in outcrop with the addition of several zones with high chalcopyrite content. Granodiorite was intersected at 26 metres. The drill hole was terminated at 66 metres depth.
The Tunerq prospect is an oxidized sulphide bearing outcrop, which was discovered in 2007. Some of the initial grab samples yielded high nickel values ranging from just over 1% to 1.71% nickel with associated copper and cobalt (see News Release NR08-03, January 17th, 2008 & NR07-23, October 31st, 2007). The sulfide mineralized outcrop is approximately 20 to 30 metres wide and slopes gently into an extensive low lying area with no outcrop exposure.
All rock and mineral classifications are based on preliminary field descriptions of drill chips. Samples will be submitted for geochemical analysis including nickel, copper and cobalt. At least four additional holes are planned for Tunerq. The initial drilling is being conducted using a percussion reverse circulation drill with air recovery enabling the Company to quickly and cost effectively develop an understanding of the extent and orientation of the mafic / ultramafic body and associated nickel -- copper -- cobalt mineralization. A core drill is available for follow-up during the summer program.
The Company has completed an electromagnetic and magnetic ground survey over part of the Tunerq prospect.
Bruce Kienlen (P.Geol) and Graham Gill (P. Geo) are Diamonds North's qualified persons reviewing this project. They are responsible for the design and conduct of the exploration programs and the verification and quality assurance of analytical results.
Diamonds North Resources is focused on discovering Canada's next diamond mine. The Company is rapidly evolving and committed to building long-term value through ongoing discoveries.
